In a candid conversation on Hoda Kotb’s podcast “Making Space,” Selena Gomez opened up about her personal battles with bipolar disorder and lupus alongside Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.
Gomez spoke passionately about her commitment to changing the public perception of mental health, sharing that she has embraced her history with medical challenges. This acceptance has given her a newfound liberation in narrating her experiences.
Throughout the discussion, Gomez highlighted her personal growth, identifying herself as someone who is compassionate and nurturing, with a deep-seated desire to contribute positively to others’ lives.
She pondered over life’s various distractions, pointing out that she is no longer intimidated by labels, having taken ownership of her narrative.
Gomez pointed out that this journey towards self-empowerment has granted her a significant sense of liberation.
Coinciding with the podcast, Gomez also led her third annual Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit, donning the same attire she wore during the podcast.
It was at this event that she proudly announced the Rare Impact Fund’s impressive achievement of gathering $7 million to support mental health causes.
At the summit, Selena Gomez took a moment to acknowledge the importance of mental health and the collective effort to address it: “Mental health means so much to me, and I’m honored we get to share this mission with the world together” she conveyed to those present.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to use their voice for good!” she added. Gomez also shared that the event sparked a sense of inspiration within her, particularly from “the next generation,” leaving her “filled with so much hope.”
Previously, in October, Gomez had been open about her diagnosis at the inaugural fundraiser for her cause.
She reflected on her personal struggles, saying, “I struggled with the world inside my head for a long time and I felt lost and hopeless at times. In 2020, I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder.”
She emphasized that understanding her condition brought clarity and relief, allowing her to navigate her life with increased confidence and less fear. For more updates, follow Feedbinge.
