Cargo Film & Releasing, a New York-based company, has acquired global distribution rights, with the exception of France and Germany, for The Books He Didn’t Burn from Germany’s Florian Film. The film, narrated by Jeremy Irons, explores Adolf Hitler’s personal library and how the books he read shaped his worldview, ultimately leading to the persecution of Jewish people in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s.
The film features contributions from historian Timothy W. Ryback and Rabbi Delphine Horvilleur, among others, and was directed by Jascha Hannover. Cargo Film & Releasing hopes that the film’s examination of the justifications for bigotry and violence will help society combat them.
The Books He Didn’t Burn is available in 1 x 90 and 1 x 60’ formats. Florian Film for the French-German channel Arte produced this film. The crew of producers also includes André Schäfer and Anna Steuber of Florian Film.
Cargo Film & Releasing’s documentary slate includes Satan Wants You, which examines the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, Hidden Letters, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award, and Mighty Afrin – In the Time of the Floods, an environmental-themed documentary produced in cooperation with Arte, which is also being screened at MipDoc and MipTV.
