Disney has unveiled a fresh glimpse of the eagerly awaited “Moana 2.” This new animated musical continues the journey of Moana and Maui from the Oscar-nominated film of 2016. Disney is known for building on successful franchises by creating spinoffs and sequels, and “Moana” is no exception. Alongside the animated sequel, Disney is also working on a live-action adaptation of the beloved tale. Earlier this year, fans got a sneak peek of the first teaser for “Moana 2,” and now, a new image has been revealed.
The initial glimpse shared on X/Twitter from Disney’s 2024 Shareholders Meeting showcases a mature Moana navigating the seas, her expression one of sheer determination. In her grasp, she holds an oar adorned with Maui’s iconic fish hook and a heart motif.
Yet, what captures attention is not just Moana herself, but the ominous figure in the backdrop. It appears to be an immense monster or shell-like entity, complete with eyes, tentacles, and a gaping maw, looming behind her.
Dwayne Johnson Returns for Live-Action Moana Adventure
Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock,” is coming back to voice Maui in the live-action version of Moana. This was confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the 2024 annual shareholders meeting. Alongside Auli’i Cravalho, who voices Moana, Johnson will reprise his role in both Moana 2 and the live-action adaptation. The movie follows Moana and Maui as they team up to break an ancient curse on Moana’s island. Directed by Thomas Kail, the film is produced by Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, along with Flynn Picture Co. and executive produced by Scott Sheldon.
