Bill Skarsgård won’t star as the iconic clown in Stephen King’s It prequel Welcome to Derry. However, it is unknown who will take over the role.
Bill Skarsgård, the actor known for his iconic portrayal of Pennywise the Clown in the film adaptations of Stephen King’s It, has confirmed that he will not be reprising his role in the upcoming prequel series, tentatively titled Welcome to Derry.
In an interview with Jake’s Takes, Skarsgård offered advice to whoever takes on the character next, saying,
“Make it your own. Have fun with it. What I found pleasurable about that character is how abstract he was.”
Skarsgård received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the shape-shifting entity that terrorizes the fictional town of Derry, Maine, in the franchise’s first two films.
The prequel series, which has been in development since last year, is being led by showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, but very little is currently known about the project beyond its working title. It will explore the history of Derry, including the origins of the ancient evil that takes on the form of Pennywise. Despite Skarsgård’s absence from the project, fans eagerly anticipate the prequel, hoping to learn more about the sinister forces at work in King’s fictional universe.
